CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 65-ranked Charleston Southern women’s tennis team captured the doubles point in thrilling fashion and won four singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over University of North Carolina-Wilmington Thursday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.

CSU (9-0, 3-0 Big South Conference) remained undefeated on the season, and the Seahawks (7-4, 0-1 Colonial Athletic Association) had their three-match win streak snapped.

The Buccaneers won the doubles point on the strength of victories by the No. 1 and No. 3 teams.

Angie Torres and Andrea Schutte took down Kayla Schwenk and Christina Riley 8-1, and Susita Das and Brooke Pletcher secured the first point of the day by defeating Hartley Collins and Chelsea Kahle 9-8 (7-3) in an exciting tiebreaker.

Das and Pletcher have now win six-straight doubles matches.

Christina Lee and Lindsay Leblang kept things interesting in the fight for the doubles point after defeating Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic 8-3.

The team of Collins/Kahle entered the day on a five-match win streak in doubles action and the tandem fell to 8-3 on the season.

Makhova kept her undefeated streak in singles action going strong with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Schwenk from the No. 1 position.

Schutte had to work hard from the No. 2 slot to also move to 9-0 in singles play this season. She faced Lee and found out quick that Lee plays a very defensive, aggravating brand of tennis.

Schutte fell hard in the opening set 6-0, but in between sets she figured out how to pick her spots better and she rolled in the second set 6-1. The two players found themselves in an exciting third-set tiebreaker, which Schutte went on to win 6-5 (8-6) with the whole crowd cheering them on.

Dzakovic and Torres each remained hot as the former defeated Riley 6-3, 6-1 and the latter took down Kahle 6-4, 6-1. Kahle was 3-0 in singles action this season before losing to Torres.

Dzakovic is now on a four-match win streak and Torres has won her last three. Riley entered the day with just two losses in singles action before she lost to Dzakovic.

The two points for the Seahawks came at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Leblang was able to hold off a late charge from Pletcher, winning 6-3, 3-6, 10-5, and Casey Dashiell defeated Das 7-5, 6-0.
