#65 College of Charleston Defeats Butler

College of Charleston Women's Tennis Downs Liberty and Butler

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- The College of Charlston women's tennis team swept a pair of matches on Sunday at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point. The Cougars downed Liberty 4-3 in the opener, and knocked off Butler, 6-1, in the nightcap in front of 268 spectators.

With the sweep, the 65th-ranked Cougars improved to 7-1 on the season.  The Cougars, who have won seven straight matches, play host to Southern Conference foe Chattanooga at 2 p.m. on Monday.

In the first match, Caroline Newman's win at No. 3 singles lifted the College of Charleston women's tennis team to a hard-fought win over Liberty.  Newman earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Nadia Solomon to secure the Cougars' victory.  This marked her seventh consecutive singles victory.

After the Cougars swept the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, Nina Burgoon's 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and Laura Borza's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 gave Charleston a 3-0 lead.
In the nightcap, Charleston received singles wins from Holly Dowse at No. 1, Laura Borza at No. 2, Newman at No. 3, Kinsey Casey at No. 5 and Nina Burgoon at No. 6 en route to the win over Butler.

Dowse beat Natali Jaimes 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles and completed her exciting day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Becky Jenkins. Charleston swept the doubles point.
