Teraz exceptional run comes to an end at Wilson ITA Regional Championships
Monday, 11/02/2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Oct. 25, 2009) -- ETSU men’s tennis junior Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia), extraordinary run through the 2009 Wilson ITA Regional Championships finally came to an end Sunday as the Mojstrana, Slovenia native fell in the quarterfinals inside the Varsity Tennis Center at Indiana University.

Teraz, a 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference Second-team member, dropped his Round of Eight match against Louisville’s Simon Childs – who currently sits as the 72nd ranked singles player in the country by the ITA – in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

“Grega played well all tournament, but today he had some break points early and didn’t capitalize and closing them out,” head coach Yaser Zaatini said. “Childs is a good player. He was able to pound the ball down love-40 a number of times, so I have to give him credit for being able to come back and hold serve. That was the biggest difference today.”

Unfortunately, for Teraz like his quarterfinal singles match Sunday morning, his run with classmate Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France), in doubles action also came to a close in the afternoon. The ETSU junior partners fell to Kentucky’s No. 24 ranked squad of Brad Cox and Eric Quigley, 8-5.

Despite his two losses on Sunday the second-year Buc has had a dazzling fall season posting a 7-2 record including wins over three ranked teams. In addition to his ranked victories, Teraz, has earned a pair of quarterfinal appearances at the elite Southern Intercollegiate and ITA Regionals.

“From the start of the fall season to now the best way I could describe our team is balance,” said Zaatini. “We have a bunch of blue collar work ethic guys that come to the courts ready to battle day-in and day-out. Every player on our roster has that tough attitude that you need to have to compete on this level. I know there are areas we still need to improve in, but I couldn’t be prouder of how our guys are bringing that hard-nosed mind-set this fall.”

With the regionals now over, the Bucs return to action with their final tournament of the 2009 fall campaign Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
