Monday, 11/02/2009

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2009)After two straight days of strong play ETSU men’s tennis senior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Columbia) closed out the fourth annual UNF Fall with a pair of championships Sunday at the UNF Tennis Center in Fort Myers, Fla.

Isaza, along with sophomore teammate Ofir Weintraub (Rishon Le Zion, Israel), picked up the Bucs first victory of the day with a outstanding 8-6 victory over Florida Gulf Coast’s Thibuad Aime and Matt Rock. Minutes later the ETSU team was at it again, this time in the Flight A doubles championship contest, where the Buc pair made quick work of Jacksonville’s Jimmy Esteban and Victor Vaz, 8-3.

After winning the top doubles bracket Isaza continued his hot play with 6-4, 7-6, championship victory over North Florida’s Daniel Sotomarino in the Flight A singles bracket.

“I was real proud of Danny this weekend,” said ETSU assistant coach Ricky Rojas. “There were some good teams and players in this tournament so it was exciting to see him come out of these three days with two championships.”

Weintraub also picked up a singles win for ETSU on Sunday as the second-year Buc outlasted Georgia Southern's Sebastein Felt 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

“Overall, I thought our guys competed hard,” said Rojas. “Hopefully we can take what we learned this weekend and use it against some of these same conference teams in the spring season.”
