GW Men's Tennis Downs James Madison, 5-2, in Non-Conference Play

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The George Washington men’s tennis team downed James Madison, 5-2, in non-conference men’s tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Hillside Courts. Freshman Francisco Dias claimed his seventh straight singles victory with a win over JMU’s Greg Vladimirsky at the No. 1 spot.

GW (12-7) opened the afternoon claiming two-of-three doubles matches. Dias and senior Ugur Atlay extended their six-match winning streak at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 victory over the Dukes’ Bertrand Moulin and Vladimirsky.

The duo of sophomore Ulrik Thomsen and junior Alexander van Gils downed Ryan Pool and Florent Sentenac, 8-2, in the No. 2 match, and junior Leonardo Lapentti and sophomore Viktor Svensson were edged by Tommi Nissinen and Hugo Ramadier at the No. 3 spot, 7-6 (10-8).

Dias defeated Vladimirsky, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the first flight, and van Gils earned back-to-back tiebreakers over Sentenac by set scores of 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (14-12) at the No. 3 spot. Thomsen bounced back to defeat Nissinen, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, and senior Richard Blumenfeld downed Bastien Russo, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 6 match.

GW returns to the court on Sunday, April 8, when the squad hosts No. 73 Radford for the Colonials’ Senior Day match at 1 p.m.
