Liberty Women's Tennis Releases Fall Tournament Schedule
Monday, 08/13/2012

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty first-year women’s tennis coach Jeff Maren has released the Lady Flames’ fall tournament slate for 2012.

“I am looking forward to watching the team play against some of our spring season competitors during the fall tournaments,” remarked Maren, who comes to Liberty after six successful seasons as the associate head coach at North Texas.

For the second consecutive season, the Lady Flames will kick off their fall schedule by hosting the Liberty Fall Classic on Sept. 14-15. The tournament will feature players from Longwood, Appalachian State, James Madison, Radford, Norfolk State and Virginia Tech.

Liberty will then travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Fall Invite on Sept. 28-30. Following the Hokie Fall Invite, the Lady Flames will return to Blacksburg to take part in the Atlantic Regionals on Oct. 19-23. Both tournaments will feature the top teams from the region.

The Lady Flames will wrap up their fall play with a trip to Houston, Texas to participate in the University of Houston Invite on Nov. 2-4. In addition to the host school, Houston, other schools taking part in the tournament include: Rice, Lamar, Denver, Auburn, Iowa State, North Texas, Texas State and Oregon. “We will have the opportunity to play new opponents in Houston, which will help to strengthen our games strategically and physically,” commented Maren.

Liberty returns a core group of players who contributed 85 percent of last season’s singles victories. Brittany Yang, who led the team with 11 singles victories, returns along with Cameron Richard and Rebekah Jenkins who recorded 10 and 9 victories respectively.

“My goal for the fall is to show our girls how to be the best that they can be, every day.   Our practices, conditioning and tournaments will help us to do this. Striving to achieve our goals as a family will make the journey a sweet one,” stated Maren.
