HOUSTON – LSU freshman Rebecca Bodine advanced to the Gray Singles Consolation final at the Rice Invitational with a victory over Penn State’s Fernanda Perrotta 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday.

 

It will be Bodine’s first consolation final as the Rice Invitational is her second career tournament.

 

Sophomore Hayley Everett also scored a singles win in consolation play over Emily Dvorak of Tulane 6-1, 6-1.

 

In an extra match, where the winner doesn’t advance in a bracket, sophomore Yvette Vlaar recorded a big singles win defeating Tulane’s Caroline Magnusson 6-2, 7-6 (3).

 

Bodine added to her singles success on the day pulling off a doubles win with junior Ebie Wilson as they defeated Sarah Henderson and Maria Prishlyak of Penn State 8-3.

 

Vlaar and sophomore Ariel Morton emerged victorious in a consolation doubles match over Rebeca Mitrea and Cali Gustafson of DePaul 8-4.

 

“We played some intense matches today and I thought we showed improvement,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how we do tomorrow on the third straight day of tough competition.”


The Lady Tigers hit the courts again on Sunday finishing up the weekend at Rice with play beginning at 9 a.m.
