LSU TENNIS SET TO OPEN 2012 SEASON AT LONGHORN INVITATIONAL
AUSTIN, Texas – The LSU Women’s Tennis team opens its 2012-13 season Friday as part of the team travels to the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
Competition will get underway at 8:30 a.m. CT at Texas’ Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Caroline Hudson, Mary Jeremiah, Ariel Morton and Ella Taylor are scheduled to compete in both singles and doubles.
The tournament marks LSU’s first action under head coach Julia S. Sell, former USTA Regional Training Center National Coach and former assistant coach of the reigning Big East champion Notre Dame women’s tennis team.
“We’ve been training a lot,” Sell said. “This is our first fall tournament, so I’m expecting them to get out there, compete as hard as they can and see where we’re at. This weekend is a good indication of where we are starting the fall and where we need to go.”
In doubles, Jeremiah and Morton will face an early test as they play against Texas’ 18th-ranked duo of Lina Padegimaite and Noel Scott in the opening round of the orange flight. Hudson and Taylor are scheduled to face Tulane’s Emma Helisten and Jacqui Katz in the first round of the white flight.
Morton will take part in the singles white flight where she will face West Virginia’s Ikktesh Chahal. In the black flight Taylor will play UTSA’s Kayva Menon, and in the orange flight Jeremiah will square off against Scott. Hudson will compete against Denver’s Michelle Garpenlov in the fuchsia flight.
