OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2010) - NYIT women's tennis brought the 2010 season to a close Wednesday afternoon with a 8-1 loss to Dowling. The Bears' only point was earned in doubles play.
Seniors Alexis Beaumont (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Rebecca Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won 8-0 at the No. 2 spot. Dowling picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot and a NYIT forfeit at the No. 3 spot. Dowling headed into single play leading 3-1, as NYIT had to forfeit the No. 6 single spot due to injury.
In singles action, Stein took opponent Cristina Hoffmann to an extra points tiebreaker. Stein won the first set 6-4, but fell 6-3 in the second set. Both players battled through the tiebreaker with Hoffmann eventually winning 12-10.
NYIT finished the year with a 1-10 overall record and a 1-5 East Coast Conference mark. The Bears' lone win came against the University of D.C. in league action.
