NYIT Women’s Tennis Falls 9-0 At Molloy

BALDWIN, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2010) - NYIT women's tennis fought hard Thursday afternoon, but ultimately fell 9-0 to Molloy College. The Bears won more games than they had in previous matches, with Kelly Duarte battling to a second set tie-breaker. With the loss, NYIT dropped to 0-4 in its first year as a varsity program and Molloy improved to 2-4 on the season.

Alexana Gaspari was blanked 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Rebecca Stein took four games before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Madeline Jurlano at No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles action, Alexis Beaumont tallied three games in her defeat to Nikki Gloria. Fourth singles was a huge battle of the Bears. Kelly Duarte, after falling 6-1 in the first set, rallied back to force a tie-break situation in the second set. She feel 7-3 in the tiebreaker to Gabrielle Dicroce. In No. 5 singles, Sarah Vivonetto fell 6-3, 6-3 to Alexandra Bonventre, while Natasha Milosevich was swept 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

The Lions swept the doubles point with a trio of 8-0 decisions.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when they host the neighboring Pioneers of C.W. Post. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the NYIT Tennis Complex.
