Tuesday, 03/17/2009

LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico State men’s tennis team moved up from No. 75 to No. 64 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll that was released Tuesday, March 17.

The No. 64 ranking is the fifth highest in program history and the highest since Feb. 14, 2001, when the Aggies were No. 54. New Mexico State’s highest ranking in school history came in the 2001 preseason poll, when NM State was No. 46.

New Mexico State is 9-5 on the season and is 1-0 in WAC play. The Aggies have lost four out of their last five matches, but all four losses have come to ranked opponents. NM State is off this weekend, but plays Tuesday, March 24 at Central Florida (7-7), who is currently unranked but was No. 68 last week.

After meeting the Knights in Orlando, the Aggies head over to Tampa, Fla., to face No. 27 South Florida (9-4), Thursday, March 26, and the Aggies conclude their spring break trip against Brown (12-4), March 28, in Tampa as well.
