THIBODAUX, Louisiana - The Nicholls women's tennis team improved its record to 6-6 on the year by claiming two wins this weekend at the Nicholls Tennis Complex. On Saturday, the Colonels downed Texas-Pan American in Southland Conference action 6-1 and today the Colonels defeated Louisiana Tech in non-conference action by a score of 6-1.

Against Texas-Pan American the Colonels got started on the right foot as they captured all three doubles points. Florina Nosca and Natalla Zamora took downed Lulsa Cantu and Megan Bedeau at the No. 1 spot 8-0, while the teams of Melissa Harrison and Tatiana Denezhkina took care of Nina Ciric and Reetta Raty at the No. 2 spot, 8-5. Rounding out the doubles action at No. 3 were Sanja Stanojcic and Melissa Harrison who defeated Sarah Burton and Andrea Salvetova 8-1.

The Colonels continued its dominance in singles action as the top five players captured victories for the Colonels to close out the win.

With the win the Colonels improved their record to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in Southland Conference action while Texas-Pan American dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Nicholls continued it momentum on Sunday versus non-conference Louisiana Tech. After earning all three doubles points, one of which was forfeited due to Louisiana Tech not having enough players, the Colonels took over the match in singles action.

Florina Nosca started the Colonels out in the right direction by claiming the point at the top spot by downing Vivian ten Dolle 7-6(1), 7-5. Natalla Zamora continued for the Colonels at the No. 2 spot by beating Cecile Vichery 6-0, 6-1. Sumana Kalyanasundaram earned a point for the Colonels at the No. 3 spot by downing Maartie De Wit 6-4, 6-4. Louisiana Tech finally got on the board in singles action as Alena Erofeyeva defeated Nicholls' Tatiana Denezhkina 6-3, 6-2. The Colonels would earned the final two points at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot as both Sanja Stanojcic and Melissa Harrison came away with a point. Harrison was claimed the winner due to Louisiana Tech only having five players in singles action.

With the victory the Colonels improved their record to 6-6 and have won four of their last six contests.

Nicholls will return to action on Tuesday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. when they play host to Alcorn State at the Nicholls Tennis Complex.
