COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Julia Wais was named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Wais helped the Aztecs defeat UC Santa Barbara last week at home.

In the 6-1 victory of the Gauchos, which was the Aztecs' second in a row, Wais earned the clinching doubles point and secured the team victory with her win in singles.

In doubles action, Wais teamed with Alicia Aguilar at No. 2 and downed Erica Cano and Sofia Novak, 8-6. Then in singles with SDSU ahead, 3-0, Wais took care of Natalia Lozano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at the top of the ladder to provide the Aztecs with the necessary fourth team point.

San Diego State returns to action on Thursday when it plays host to Louisville at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m. PT.
