CARVALHO RECEIVES ITA REGION AWARD

Raony Carvalho named ITA Texas Region Player to Watch

WACO, Texas – Texas Tech men’s tennis player Raony Carvalho was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Associaton’s (ITA) Texas Region Player to Watch, which was announced today.

Carvalho was one of 12 players chosen, representing all 12 regions, and now will be up for the National Player to Watch Award. This is the second time Carvalho has received an ITA region award as he was selected the region’s Rookie Player of the Year in 2009. In 2010, he became Tech’s first ITA All-American.

“This is a great honor for Raony to be chosen as one of the 12 players to watch in the country,” said head coach Tim Siegel. “This means he is projected to be one of the top players in the nation next year.”

Carvalho, who is ranked 23rd in singles and 20th in doubles with Rafael Garcia, will lead the No. 22 Red Raiders as they open NCAA Championships play on Fri., May 13, at 10 a.m. against No. 43 Rice at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco.
