No. 22 Tulsa Women's Tennis Defeats North Texas, 4-1

IRVING, Texas - The No. 22 Tulsa women’s tennis squad picked up a 4-1 triumph over No. 54 North Texas Saturday at the Las Colinas Country Club.
 
The Golden Hurricane improved to 10-5 on the season while dropping he Green Wave to a 7-4 ledger.
 
Tulsa took a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. Freshman Renata Kuricova and junior Maria Sant’Anna defeated Dane Joubert and Ilona Serchenko, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles, while sophomore Isaura Enrique and junior Samantha Vickers, ranked No. 19 in the nation, defeated Barbora Vykydalova and Valentina Starkova, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
 
In singles play, Vickers extended the Tulsa lead to 2-0 after dispatching Ksenyia Bardabush at No. 1 singles, 8-4. Vickers is now 11-1 on the year in singles play, and is ranked No. 59 in the nation.
 
The Mean Green picked up its lone point at No. 2 singles, as Vykydalova defeated Enrique, 6-2, 6-3 to cut TU’s lead to 2-1.
 
Freshman Saana Saarteinen earned a 6-4, 6-4, win over Franziska Sprinkmeye on Court No. 4 to propel TU to a 3-1 lead.
 
Clinching the match for the Hurricane was senior Michelle Farley, who rallied at No. 3 singles to defeat Starkova, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. 
 
The Golden Hurricane will have a slight break before it heads west to face San Francisco and Saint Mary’s on March 18 and 19, respectively.
