ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Playing its second match of the season, the No. 6 West Florida women’s tennis team (2-0, 2-0 GSC) blanked Gulf South Conference rival Ouachita Baptist (1-4, 1-1 GSC) 9-0 at the indoor courts of the Heflin Tennis Center in Arkadelphia on Friday morning. The Argonauts did not drop a match against the Tigers, as five of the six singles matches were won in straight sets.

In doubles action, UWF dropped just four games combined in the three matches.  In the first spot, the No. 24 doubles team of Suzana Cavalcante (senior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Paulina Ojeda (sophomore/Santiago, Chile) defeated Tauu Fa and Natalia Drada 8-1. In the second spot No. 12 Renata Mattos (senior/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Taylor Brewster (sophomore/Ontaro, Canada) defeated Mariana Divardin and Katie Potts 8-2. Cammie Gray (freshman/Shalimar, Fla.) and Yana Bokareva (sophomore/Moscow, Russia) dropped a single game in the 8-1 victory against Thoka Zulu and Megan Ruggles to close the doubles action, giving the Argonauts the 3-0 lead.

Playing in the first spot in singles, No. 2 Cavalcante only dropped a game in the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Divardin. Brewster played in the fourth position and quickly defeated Potts 6-2, 6-0, earning the fifth team point to secure the Argonaut victory. Naomi Higa (freshman/Córdoba, Argentina) only played singles, and she dropped a single game during her 6-0, 6-1 win over Ruggles in the sixth spot. Playing in the fifth position, Gray remained perfect in the season as she has not dropped a game in singles so far. Gray quickly beat Zulu to add one more point to the Argonauts. In the third singles, Mattos battled through two tough sets to defeat Fa 7-5, 6-3. To close the deal and wrap up the conference match, Bokareva rallied from a set down to come back and decide the match in the third set tie-break. The debuting Argonaut defeated Drada 6-7, 6-0, 7-6 in the second singles spot to blank the Tigers.

West Florida will take on unranked Southwest Baptist this Saturday, February 28th. The Argonauts will face the Bearcats at a neutral site in Arkadelphia, Ark. at 11:00 am.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
