Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 3, 2009) --
"We played well today against a very good SDSU team," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "We played them close in almost every match and we hope to build on this for tomorrow’s dual against UNLV."
In doubles play, the Aztecs earned the point with wins at the number one and three spots. Rebecca Berger and Jamie Nelson pulled off a big victory, 9-8 (4), against Kathryn Kitts and Milana Yusupov. Sarah Summerfield and Carly Van Hollen fell to the number one team of Roxanne and Sierra Ellison, 9-8 (4), while Esther Cadua and Olivia Colman won by default in the third spot.
It was tough going in singles play as the Cowgirls could only manage to win one match on the day. Junior Sarah Summerfield earned a tough three set victory, 2-6, 6-4, 13-11 over Julia Tank at the number one position. Bagshaw defeated Berger in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, while Van Hollen lost in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, against Cioffi. In the number four spot, Chaix fell 6-2, 6-0, to Cadua and the Aztecs closed things out with Colman over Nelson, 6-3, 6-4.
The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 3, as they take on the UNLV Rebels. The match is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
