Alexa Guarachi Rolls into the Semifinals of the French Open with Second-Consecutive Upset Win
Guarachi and partner Desirae Krawczyk, seeded 14th coming into the week, downed the No. 7-seeded duo of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara in the quarterfinals

PARIS – University of Alabama alum Alexa Guarachi continued her run at the French Open, combining with Desirae Krawczyk to down Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros Stadium Wednesday.

"It feels like a dream,” Guarachi said. “I feel unbelievably happy, but I also know we are playing really good tennis, and we have been playing good tennis all year. I'm just really happy it's kind of paying off now, seeing the results.”

Guarachi and Krawczyk, seeded No. 14 coming into the week, took just over an hour to post a convincing win, 6-0, 6-4 over their seventh-seeded opponents and advance to the semifinals. Guarachi was making her first quarterfinal appearance in a Grand Slam and is now just one win away from the finals.

It was Guarachi’s and Krawczyk’s second upset win of the tourney after downing the No. 1 doubles tandem in the world, and the Open’s No. 1 seed Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 16.

With the win, Guarachi and Krawczyk will face Iga Swiatek and Nicole Melichar in the semifinals on Friday.
