ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Denise Dy played her final match as a Husky this morning, coming up short in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships at Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex. One of the best players in Husky history, Dy is a three-time All-American and three-time All-Pac-12 Team member.

The San Jose, Calif. native fell in the round of 32 today against No. 5 seed Mallory Burdette of Stanford. Burdette had Dy’s number this season, though Dy has beaten her in past years. But Burdette earned her third win over Dy this year, 6-1, 6-2 to make the round of 16.

Dy finishes with a career singles record of 98-37, for a .726 career winning percentage. Her 98 wins rank fourth in school history. Dy’s percentage and wins numbers would likely be much higher if not for a difficult wrist injury she battled through this season. Her sophomore and junior seasons were two of the best in school history, when she went a combined 56-13 for an .812 winning percentage.

Dy has ranked in the top-25 in every national singles rankings since January of 2010. She twice made the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships and also made the semis of the ITA All-American Championships. Also, she was the first Husky ever to win the ITA Northwest Region singles title, doing so in 2009.

Ranked 17th heading into the NCAA tourney, Dy could still earn an All-America honor this year if she finishes in the top-20 in the final poll, which will come out after the singles championships conclude.
