Courtney Colton and Lauren Mira to play in NCAA Doubles Championship
Sunday, 05/05/2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis junior Lauren Mira and freshman Courtney Colton have been named to the Women’s Tennis NCAA Doubles Championship. The duo is part of the 32-team field who will compete in the tournament May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill.

All matches will be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games will be used for all matches. The doubles format mirrors the singles, but with only 32 entries.

Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All doubles teams must have a minimum of 10 completed doubles matches, with five matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.

Colton and Mira are currently ranked No. 13 in the most recent ITA doubles rankings. Last season Mira and former Commodore Jackie Wu advanced to the round of 16.

In addition to making the doubles field, Mira is currently the fourth alternate in the singles tournament. Should four players pull out of the singles tournament, Mira would be in the field.

The Commodores are set to begin team play in the NCAA Tournament versus Indiana on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m. CT in Clemson, S.C., at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
