Crimson Tide junior earns her second weekly award of the season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior Courtney McLane was named the Player of the Week for women’s tennis by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday. This is McLane’s second weekly honor from the league office this season, as she earned the same award on Feb. 9, after helping the Crimson Tide to road wins against Texas Tech and Tulane.
Last weekend, McLane was instrumental in Alabama’s victory at home against Kentucky and on the road at No. 14 Vanderbilt. Her performance was highlighted on Sunday against the Commodores where she provided the clinching singles victory to give the Tide its first win over Vanderbilt since 1994. In her singles match against Kentucky, she dropped just two games en route to posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory that put the Tide up 2-0 in the match. In doubles, McLane, and partner Alexa Guarachi, knocked off their eighth nationally-ranked opponent of the season with an 8-3 win against the Commodores’ Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu.
McLane, and the rest of the Tide, will host No. 15 Arkansas and No. 53 LSU on Friday, April 1, and Sunday, April 3, respectively. Alabama’s match against the Razorbacks is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT, while the contest versus the Tigers will start at 1 p.m. CT.
