Alabama’s Taylor Lindsey and Courtney McLane Capture ITA Summer Circuit Doubles Title
Saturday, 08/20/2011

Win marks the second straight year a Crimson Tide doubles team has claimed the finals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Alabama women’s tennis seniors Taylor Lindsey and Courtney McLane teamed up to win the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Collegiate Summer Circuit Doubles Championship on Wednesday at the Indiana University Varsity Tennis Center. This is the second consecutive year a Crimson Tide doubles team has won the event, as Lindsey, and then-freshman Alex Clay, took the title in 2010.

“I’m proud of Courtney and Taylor for their championship title,” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz said. “They decided earlier this summer that they were going to make a run for the championship. I’m impressed with the fortitude they’ve exhibited, and the improvement they’ve shown through the course of the summer. They have great chemistry and complement each other nicely.”

With the win, Lindsey and McLane earn a wild card into the main draw of the 2011 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships being held October 1-9, in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

The Tide duo won four matches in as many days en route to earning the doubles crown. After a first-round bye, Lindsey and McLane downed the mixed team of DePaul junior Gia McKnight and Yale sophomore Annie Sullivan, 8-2. From there, the Alabama pair posted an 8-5 victory over Northwestern sophomore Nida Hamilton and Duke sophomore Hanna Mar. In the semifinals, Lindsey and McLane downed Purdue senior Jennifer Rabot and sophomore Mara Schmidt, 8-4, before pulling out a 9-8(3) thriller over Georgia Tech’s tandem of sophomore Alex Anghelescu and junior Caroline Lilley.
