ITA also announces field for Riviera/All-American Championships

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently announced its 2011 Campbell/ITA Preseason Rankings that featured three Alabama women’s tennis team members ranked nationally in singles and one pair ranked nationally in doubles.

Sophomore Mary Anne Macfarlane highlighted the Crimson Tide’s list of players ranked in singles with her spot at No. 27 in the nation. This comes after a stellar freshman season playing No. 1 singles for Alabama where she ranked as high as 15th in singles and No. 32 in doubles. She was awarded Freshman of the Year honors by the SEC in addition to being named to the All-SEC First team.

Macfarlane is joined by senior Courtney McLane at No. 90 and sophomore Alex Clay at No. 94. McLane has been solid for the Crimson Tide in both singles and doubles, posting a 19-12 record in singles last year, including 8-3 in conference play. In doubles, she was solid last season with a record of 30-9 overall, including 17-5 in dual match play. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team following last year’s season.

Clay had a 22-10 overall record in singles last season, including posting an 8-3 record in conference play.

McLane and senior Taylor Lindsey represent Alabama in doubles as they begin the season at No. 27.

In addition to the preseason rankings, the field for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships was announced and several of the Tide were selected for the qualifying and pre-qualifying singles and doubles draws. Macfarlane was named to the qualifying singles draw, while McLane and Clay were placed in the pre-qualifying singles draw.

McLane and Lindsey automatically earned a spot in the main draw for doubles after winning the 2011 National Collegiate Summer Circuit Doubles Championship. This will mark the 26th consecutive year the event has been hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
