Crimson Tide sends four players to Cary, N.C.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s tennis team will kick off the 2011-12 year with a trip to Cary, N.C., to participate in the Duke Fab Four Invite. The tournament will take place over three days with the first round will being held on Friday, Sept. 16, at 8 a.m. CT.
“This tournament provides a great first opportunity for our team,” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. “The caliber of teams in this tournament is extremely impressive and a good way to start off the season. We had a fantastic showing here last year and really enjoyed the experience. I feel like we have strengthened our fall schedule, and this is just the beginning on it.”
The Crimson Tide will be sending four players to participate in the tournament Senior Taylor Lindsey will get Alabama started in the first round against Duke sophomore Hanna Mar, while junior Alexa Guarachi will match up against freshman Lynda Xepoleas of Purdue. Sophomore Mary Anne Macfarlane, ranked 27th, will be facing another Purdue freshman in Daniela Vidal as 90th-ranked senior Courtney McLane will play senior Katie Kargle of the College of William and Mary.
McLane and Lindsey will also participate in the doubles draw playing Illinois senior Amy Allin and junior Rachael White. Joining them will be Guarachi and Macfarlane, who will take on Texas A&M juniors Nazari Urbina and Sun Wen.
