Laie, HI—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team improved to 7-0 for the season today with an 8-1 win over Grand Canyon. The Seasiders swept all six singles matches in straight sets and lost just at the number three doubles spot.
Yuan Jia breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second singles position while Elwen Li was taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top slot. Ayako Ikeda earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position and Shawni Porter claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three. Salina Aranda cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fifth singles position and Theresa Holmes won 6-1, 6-1 at number six.
Jia and Li picked up an easy win at number one doubles by an 8-1 score while Porter and Ikeda took an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Sophia Simmons and Justine Gallaci fell 8-4 at the final doubles spot.
The Seasiders play UH-Hilo tomorrow in Laie at 9:00 am.
