Women’s Tennis - ITA West Regionals
Los Angeles, CA—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Annie Hwang and Sherry Liu won their opening matches today in both singles and doubles at the women’s USTA/ITA West Regional Tournament. The Seasiders swept each lost just a one game in singles play and then lost just a single game in their doubles match win.
In singles play top-seeded Hwang downed Christa Cole of Sonoma State 6-0, 6-1 to start the day and Liu, seeded fourth in the tournament, defeated Tara Vanootgehm of UC San Diego 6-1, 6-0. Both Seasiders advanced to tomorrow’s round of 16.
Hwang and Liu teamed up later in the day as the top seed in doubles play to defeat Jessica Stokes and McKenzy Hardin of Cal State-Stanislaus 8-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
