BYU Hawaii Improve to 14-0 in Weekend Performances

Pensacola, FL—The second-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team improved to 14-0 today with a pair of wins. The Seasiders defeated Division I Austin Peay (TN) 4-0 in a shortened match in the morning and then defeated 20th-ranked Central Oklahoma 9-0 in the evening.
In the day’s first match only five singles matches were contested and when the Seasiders swept the first four completed to win the match under Division I seven-point rules, the match was stopped. Annie Hwang and Yuan Jia each won 6-0, 6-0 at the second and third doubles positions respectively while Salina Aranda took a 6-3, 6-3 win at number four and Sasha Ulbrichtova claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at number five singles.
Against Central Oklahoma, Hwang won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles while Jia took a 6-1, 6-4 win at number two. Elwen Li scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at the third spot and Aranda earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at number four. Ulbrichtova won 6-0, 6-1 at number five singles and Kaylyn Bristol battled to a 7-5, 6-4 win at the sixth position.
In doubles play, Li and Jia won 8-2 at number one, Hwang and Aranda won 8-1 at number two, and Ulbrichtova and Sophia Simmons claimed an 8-4 win at number three doubles.
The next action for the BYU–Hawaii women’s tennis team will be Monday against Erskine (SC) in Due West, South Carolina at 3:00 pm EST.
