Brigham Young University Hawaii Receives Conference Honors

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team picked up the lion’s share of the Pacific West Conference All-Conference honors today. Junior Yuan Jia was named the Player of the Year for the conference and Annie Hwang garnered the Newcomer of the Year award. Coach Dave Porter shared the PacWest Coach of the Year honor the Seasiders earned three of the six All-Conference First Team Singles spots and had two of the three All-Conference First Team Doubles honors.
Porter continued his mastery of the PacWest Conference, leading the Seasiders to their fifth straight title since the league began expanding under its current administration in 2006-07. He led the Seasiders to a 27-1 overall record this year with their lone loss occurring in the Round of 16 of the NCAA II National Championships.
In addition to her Player of the Year honor, Jia was named All-PacWest First Team Singles and Doubles for the third straight year after posting a 21-1 singles mark and a 25-1 first doubles record. She was 6-0 at first singles, 11-1 at second singles and 4-0 at third singles.
Hwang also earned All-PacWest First Team Singles and Doubles, going 22-0 at first singles and 24-1 at second doubles.
BYU-Hawaii senior Hewenfei (Elwen) Li Boud earned All-PacWest First Team Singles and Doubles for the fourth straight year. Li Boud finished 20-0 this season in singles competition. She was 13-0 at third singles, 5-0 at second singles and 2-0 at first singles. She also had a 22-1 first doubles mark.
Seasider junior Shawni Porter earned her second straight All-PacWest First Team Doubles honors following a 17-0 record this season. She was 14-0 at second doubles and 3-0 at third doubles.
