COSTA MESA, Calif. --- The NAIA’s No. 7-ranked California Baptist University won four singles’ matches to key its way to a 6-3 GSAC win at No. 10 Vanguard Tuesday evening.

The win is the Lancers’ third in the past four games as they improve to 4-4 overall, 3-2 GSAC. The Lions fall to 3-4, 3-3.

The Lancers took an early lead, winning two of three doubles’ matches. Vanguard’s point came at No. 1 when Hana Jurcovicova and Betyel Tesfa narrowly defeated Marcela Montanha and Dunya Wren, 9-8.

With a 2-1 advantage heading to singles, the Lancers won the first three singles’ matches completed to clinch the match early. Aurelie Hascoet defeated Kateryna Malakhova, 6-2, 1-0 (retired) at No. 3 to get things started. Jelena Savic easily downed Brittnie Furuvald, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6, and then Maiara Oliveira defeated Maria Fernanda Xavier, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 to clinch the match. Wren picked up the Lancers’ sixth and final point with a win at No. 4.
