RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The 2009 NAIA Women’s Tennis Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 poll was released Wednesday, and California Baptist University checked in at No. 10. It matches the Lancers’ highest preseason ranking ever.

Last season, the Lancers began the season ranked No. 10 before moving all the way up to No. 5. They finished the season 14-8 overall and ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, advancing to the quarterfinals of the national tournament.

CBU returns five players from last year’s team and is currently 1-1 on the season with its lone loss to NCAA Division I San Francisco.

Seven teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference are ranked in the Top 25. Five of them are in the top 10. Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), which has won five straight national titles, is No. 1, receiving all 15 first place votes. Fresno Pacific is No. 2, Vanguard is No. 3, Azusa Pacific is No. 4, and Point Loma Nazarene is No. 8.
