Capra Seeded No. 3; Opens National Indoors Thursday

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships will kick off on Thursday with Duke sophomore standout Beatrice Capra seeded No. 3 overall.  The action will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., from Nov. 7-10.

Capra, who is out of Ellicott City, Md., is seeded No. 3 overall in the championship and will face UCLA’s Jennifer Brady in the opening round on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.  The winner of the match will advance to face the winner of the Rachel Pierson of Virginia versus 48th-ranked Cristina Stancu of Texas A&M on Friday.

The championship will features the top 32 singles players in the country.  Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists and women's singles semifinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.

As a freshman, Capra advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championship, but lost in the first round to Texas’ Aeriel Ellis, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6.  Capra has totaled an 11-1 overall record this fall and is coming off winning the ITA Carolinas Regional singles title in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Oct. 21.
