Capra Falls in First Round at ITA National Indoors
Monday, 11/25/2013

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Coming off capturing the ITA Carolinas Regional single title last month, Duke University sophomore Beatrice Capra fell in the first round of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Seeded No. 3 overall in the bracket, Capra got off to a good start by breaking UCLA’s Jennifer Brady’s serve early on her way to winning the first set, 6-2.  Brady found her range at the beginning of the second set and started controlling points from the first shot.  Capra, who is out of Ellicott City, Md., dropped the second set, 6-2.

Brady continued her excellent play in the third set taking a 5-2 lead, but Capra battled back to a 5-4 ledger.  After Capra nearly evened the third set at 5-5, Brady came through with some good shots and was able to close the set at 6-4.  The 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 loss was only the second defeat of the 2013 fall campaign for the Blue Devil.

In two appearances in the ITA National Indoor Championship, Capra has lost in the first round both times.  She will compete in the singles consolation portion of the bracket starting on Friday.
