The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team put up a strong fight, losing two three-set single matches, in dropping a 7-0 dual meet to No. 21-ranked University of Miami on Thursday night in Coral Gables, Fla. The match was featured worldwide on radiotennis.com.
In the featured match, junior Marc Abdelnour lost a hard fought, three-set decision at No. 1 singles to the Hurricanes' Carl Sundberg, the nation's 57th-ranked player. Abdelnour battled back after dropping the first set to win the second set by an impressive 6-2 score. However, the Aleppo, Syria native suffered a heart-breaking 10-7 loss in a third set tiebreaker.
Senior Lawrence Harradine also was on the losing end of a three-set setback, losing at No. 2 singles to Miami's Christian Blocker 6-1, 1-6 and 6-1. Harradine and Abdelnour combined to lose 8-4 in No. 1 doubles.
Junior Ervin Garibovic lost a competitive match 7-5 and 6-3 with the Hurricanes' Keith Crowley at No. 4 singles, while the No. 2 doubles team of senior Daniel Vardag and junior Joshua Scholl lost 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
FAU returns to the court on Saturday, February 6 against nationally-ranked University of Florida in Gainesville. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
