BOCA RATON, FL -- The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Sunday, defeating Florida Gulf Coast University 6-1 in a dual match at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The victory improved the Owls' record to 4-3 on the season.

"This was an important match for us," said Men's Tennis Head Coach Brandon Stokes. "The boys prepared well, were focused and did a good job of minimizing distractions over the weekend."

The victory came after a hard-fought 4-3 loss to the University of Central Florida at home on Friday.

Against Florida Gulf Coast, FAU took the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The duo of junior Joshua Scholl and sophomore Derek Madon clinched the point at the No. 2 position with an 8-5 victory. Junior Ervin Garibovic and freshman Matthew Braunworth cruised to an 8-2 win at the back end of the doubles rotation.

In singles, FAU won five of the six matches to solidify the match victory. Garibovic, a transfer from Florida Gulf Coast, led the way with a straight-set victory in the No. 3 position, dropping only four games.

Senior Lawrence Harradine won 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 2 singles to post a team-high six match victories on the spring season. Scholl picked up a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Owls. Madon won 6-2 and 6-3 while Braunworth dropped just four games to cap off the singles rotation.
