The Gusties hosted four teams at the Swanson Center on March 14.  Action started at 8:30 a.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and ended at 10 p.m. when the last ball was struck against St. John's University.  Thirty-six individual singles and doubles varsity matches were played, and each ended in victory.  Gustavus swept UW-Whitewater, St. Mary's University, University of Sioux Falls, and St. John's University by identical 9-0 scores.  Seventeen Gustavus players contributed wins as the team upped its season record to 16-4 and its MiAC Conference record to 6-0.

Nearly one hundred alumni returned to the Swanson Center to cheer the Gusties on to victory.  Also, they were celebrating the 39-year coaching career of Coach Steve Wilkinson.  He enjoyed the time he could spend time renewing old friendships as assistant coaches Tommy Valentini and Kevin Whipple assumed the on-court coaching responsibilities.  These were the last regular season home matches this season and the last for Wilkinson as head coach.  However, he intends to continue working at Gustavus, assisting the team and promoting both tennis and sport ethics.

On Saturday, March 21 the Gustavus team heads to California on their spring trip for the tenth consecutive year.  During the 80's and 90's the destination had been Arizona.  Before that in the 70's they drove to Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.   This year the Gusties face Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on March 23, Williams College on March 24, Redlands University on March 25, and University of California-Santa Cruz on March 26.  The Gusties return to Minnesota on the evening of March 27.
