J.C. Smith nips Fayetteville State 5-4

The Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University nipped Fayetteville State 5-4 on the road for their first win over the Broncos since March 16, 2002 .
The Bulls ( 1-1, 2-1 ,4-9) previously had won 6-3,5-4 in a 2002 doubleheader but then the drought began.
Thursday's action began with Cameron Chatman and Jae Hargett (Bulls) beating Ines Nieves and Kristen Talpassi 8-2.at number one doubles. Then Rolanda Sue and Brittany Laws lost a close one , 8-5, to Chekimbell Jefferson and Samantha Meeks at number two. The Bulls forfeited number three doubles to fall behind Fayetteville 2-1.
But things got serious in singles with the Bulls taking four of six singles scheduled. Chatman beat Nieves 6-2, 6-0 at one, Hargett beat Talpassi 6-0,7-6 (8-6) at two. This was followed by Laws beating Meeks at three 6-2,6-3. The Bulls finally subcumbed with Jefferson beating Melissa Shuler at number four 6-3,6-1
That set the stage for RSue to clinch the match with a three set win over Amber Mitchell 3-6,6-2,6-4.
The Bulls forfeited number six singles.
