BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Miami dominated Eastern Illinois 7-0 Sunday morning, but had to settle for a split after a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to host Indiana in the afternoon.

The rare doubleheader left the Redhawks with a 2-1 record on the young season.

Indiana, ranked No. 30 in the country, needed every point to earn the victory as the outcome went down to the last match. The Hoosiers started the encounter by winning the doubles point, 2-1. Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzolf earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles before Monica Gorny and Anastasia Dracheva and Brintney Larson and Riekie Honiball each lost 8-5.

In singles, Dracheva and Gorny posted 6-2, 6-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, to put Miami up 2-1. Indiana tied the score at 2-2 when Charlotte Martin eeked out a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 decision over Danesis at No. 2. The Hoosiers went back up by a point by winning at No. 4, but Larson earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5.

The deciding match was a 6-3, 7-5 No. 6 victory by Indiana's Megan Matter over Honiball.

"We are super disappointed," Head Coach Howard Joffe admitted. "It (the indiana match) was a narrow loss and it hurts. It is obvious that we are talented and hopefully, as we go forward, the luck will change. In the opening match, we were just significantly better than Eastern Illinois. It really wasn't close."

Details of the Eastern Illinois are unavailable at this time.
