Breland Signs with Lady Wildcats for 09-10 Season
Tuesday, 05/26/2009

Stone High School senior Andrea Breland signed with the Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcat Tennis Team for the 09-10 season. Breland is the daughter of Al and Karen Breland of Wiggins, Mississippi. She has been a member of Stone High’s tennis team for the past five years, four of which she played on the varsity team. Over the years, she was awarded Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Player. Breland also contributed to the success of the Stone High team as they advanced to win their district this year.

Playing college tennis was a goal Breland set for herself, and now that she has achieved it, she is proud of her accomplishment and looking forward to the experience. “Having the opportunity to play college tennis is just a huge blessing,” Breland said. “I am ready to improve my game. I think that this will be a wonderful experience.” Coach Jessica Olson, a 1999 graduate of Stone High School, is looking forward to once again having a fellow Tomcat on the team. “It’s nice to be able to bring on players from my hometown,” said Olson. “I’ve had a few guys on the team from Wiggins over the years, so it’s about time the girls were represented. I think Andrea will do well and really be able to contribute to the team’s success.”

Other former Tomcats that have been a part of the Pearl River Tennis program under Coach Olson include Justin Barrett, a 2006 graduate of Stone High who is now a member of the Mississippi College Choctaws in Jackson, Mississippi, and Steven Georgian, a 2007 graduate of Stone High who has just signed to play for the William Carey Crusaders beginning this fall.
