The Pearl River Lady Wildcats were defeated by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs 8-1 today.
In doubles, at No.1 Kasey King of Purvis and Alyssa Wolfe of Foxworth were defeated by Ruta Grindvalde and Morgan Rabby 8-4. At No.2, Janae Norwood of Hattiesburg and Kristen Barber of Sandy Hook fell to Victoria Hagel and Megan Terrell 8-1. At the No.3 spot, Kenyatta Epps and Emily Leverett lost only their second match of the season as a doubles team to Brittany Freeman and Katherine Blair 8-5.
In singles action, at No.1 King fell to Grinvalde 6-0, 6-0. At No.2 Norwood fell to Hagel 6-1, 6-3. At No.3 Wolfe played a close match but was unable to close it out, falling to Terrell 6-4, 6-4. At No.4 Epps continued her undefeated season, claiming the only point of the day for the Lady Wildcats by defeating Rabby 7-6(1), 4-6, 10-8. At No.5 Barber, also in a close match, fell just short to Blair 6-3, 6-4. At No.6, Leverett was defeated by Katy King 6-1, 6-0.
The Pearl River Lady Wildcats will stay at home to take on the Hinds Community College Eagles on Monday, April 5. Play is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
