Norwood Signs with Lady Wildcats for Fall 2009
Tuesday, 05/26/2009

Oak Grove High School senior Janae Norwood, daughter of Karen Norwood of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Kendall Norwood of St. Louis, Missouri, signed to play with the Pearl River Lady Wildcats Tennis Team this fall.

Norwood has been a member of the Oak Grove High School tennis team since her sophomore year. This past season, she competed in girls’ doubles and contributed to the team’s success as they advanced throughout the season to become the runner-up in the state championships. Pearl River Community College Coach Jessica Olson is looking forward to Norwood’s participation on the team. “The team is really coming together well, and I think Janae is going to fit right in and be able to make a great contribution to the team’s success,” said Olson. “She’s great at the net and that’s a real strength for the women’s team. With the experience she’s gained during her time playing at Oak Grove, she’ll be a great asset to our team.”

While the opportunities offered academically attracted Norwood to Pearl River, she is really looking forward to her time with the Lady Wildcats. “I feel very honored to take part in something I love and the opportunity to help out the team,” said Norwood. “I am looking forward to the team bond and striving to win a championship.”
