FARMVILLE, Va. -- Despite dropping the doubles point, Radford won five of the six singles contests to defeat Longwood, 5-2, in non-conference women's tennis action Thursday afternoon at Lancer Courts.

Winners of seven of their last eight matches, the Highlanders are off to their best start in school history, improving to 13-5, while dropping the Lancers to 7-9 on the Spring.

Radford's only doubles triumph came from its freshmen duo of Hannah Crawford and Meg Napolitano, who improved to a team-best 15-3.

After falling behind 1-0, the Highlanders responded with five straight singles triumphs, including a come-from-behind win by freshman Gemma Valls (0-6, 6-4, 6-2) on court four to clinch the dual.

Radford also got singles wins from Petra Dajevic, Crawford, Taylor Newman and Napolitano.

The Highlanders resume Big South play Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Campbell at the RU Tennis Courts before hosting Winthrop Sunday at 1 p.m.
