The University of Texas at Tyler women’s tennis team put an end to its four-match losing streak on Wednesday by beating Trinity (Conn.), 5-4, at the Summers Tennis Center.
The Patriots (10-5) enjoyed an early advantage in the match by taking two of three doubles points from the Bantams (3-1).
In singles action, UT Tyler picked up wins from freshman Sydni Hermsdorf (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Lauren Giovannini (Dallas, Texas) at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.
However, the Patriots lost at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 and found themselves tied at 4-4 with just one point still up for grabs.
With the match resting squarely on her shoulders, junior Brittany Ude (Corpus Christi, Texas) rose to the occasion and won her match in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Both Patriot tennis teams will return to the Summers Tennis Center on Sunday to take on Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m.
