Anteaters Beat Cal Poly 6-1
UCI improves to 2-0 in Big West

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team (3-6, 2-0) beat Cal Poly 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Big West Conference play at the Mustang Tennis Complex.
The ‘Eaters won all three doubles matches taking a 1-0 lead. Senior Wes Miller (Newport Beach/Arizona State) and sophomore Khunpol Issara (Bangkok, Thailand) defeated Dome/Gerst 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. Junior Zac Tsai (Tarzna/Oaks Christian HS) and freshman Jon Kazarian (Rancho Palos Verdes/Peninsula HS) beat Foy/Young in the No. 2 match 8-6. Sophomore Gautam Vaidyanathan (University HS) and freshman Steven Henderson (Poway HS) defeated McPhee/Wardman 8-3 in the No. 3 slot.
In single, the ‘Eaters won five of the six matches to win the overall match 6-1. Andre Dome beat Wes Miller 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 1 match for Cal Poly’s lone win of the day. Steven Henderson beat Andrew Gerst 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. Freshman Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) defeated Darryn Young 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Khunpol Issara beat Drew Jacobs 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot. Sophomore Stephen Stege (Los Gatos HS) beat Robert Foy 6-3, 6-4 in No. 5 singles. Freshman Sam Gould (Hamilton, New Zealand) defeated Blake Wardman 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.
The Anteaters stay on the road this week as they head to Tucson, Ariz. where they will face New MexicoState Saturday and Arizona Sunday.
