Nevada Men's Tennis Blanks Pomona-Pitzer

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of Nevada men’s tennis team opened its weekend with a 7-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer Saturday.

In doubles action, junior Laurent Garcin and freshman Wessim Derbel picked their second win of the season together shutting out Tommy Meyer and Cameron Taylor in the No. 1 spot. Senior Benjamin David and junior Augustin Myard teamed up in the No. 2 spot to defeat Drew Cohn and Alden Williford 8-1 while junior Alex Daruty and sophomore Kristian Kuharszky defeated Ramsey Bernard and Alex Groth 8-1 in the No. 3 spot.

In singles competition, Garcin defeated Taylor 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot while Derbel picks up his third consecutive win defeating Meyer in the No. 2 spot to remain undefeated in singles play. In No. 3 singles, Daruty topped Nick Tagliarino 6-0, rej., David picked up his first singles win of the season defeating Groth 6-1, 6-3 and Kuharszky topped Uday Singh 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot.

Myard opened his dual season not only with a win in doubles but also in singles, defeating Ramsey 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.

“These guys competed very well today,” Nevada head coach Chad Stoloff said. “The aspect that was so impressive was our attention to detail. We tried to play mentally and physically up to our capabilities and we did a pretty good job of that up and down the lineup.”

The Wolf Pack (2-1, 0-0 WAC) will conclude its weekend against UC Riverside Sunday. The match is set to start at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.
