Nevada Men's Tennis Beats San Diego St. on the road 5-2

SAN DIEGO - The University of Nevada men’s tennis team pulled won of the biggest wins of the season defeating No. 44 San Diego State on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego.

The Aztecs entered the match against Nevada (6-2) on a roll this weekend, defeating No. 30 Texas Tech on Friday and No. 27 Minnesota earlier on Sunday and the Wolf Pack snapped the Aztecs four-match winning streak.

Junior Laurent Garcin picked up his 51st career singles win in the No. 1 position by defeating Achim Ceban 4-6, 6-3 6-1. Garcin is now three wins from tying Dave Williams (1978-82) for fourth in Nevada’s all-time career singles wins list. Garcin also improves to 8-3 overall on the season. Freshman Wessim Derbel picked up his seventh win in his career defeating Bartosz Golas 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 position. Junior Alex Daruty extends his singles win streak to six defeating Andre Feliz 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 position.

Junior Augustin Myard also extends his singles win streak to six after topping Tim Schulz van Endert 7-6 (3), 1-6, 1-0 (10). Myard improves to 7-2 overall in singles on the season. Sophomore Kristian Kuharszky picked up his ninth win on the season after defeating Luis Rattenhuber 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 position. However senior Benjamin David was defeated 6-1, 6-0 to Giovanni Vaglietti in the No. 5 position.

With Nevada picking up five wins in singles competition, it was unable to get the doubles point as the Wolf Pack were swept in all three positions.

“[Assistant] Coach Jay Stearley and I are so proud of the guys,” Nevada head coach Chad Stoloff said. “They once again competed as hard as they could. When you do that, your percentage is in your favor.”
