(San Diego, CA) - The USD men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the visiting Princeton Tigers of the Ivy League today in a match played at the USD West Tennis Courts. USD's Dean Jackson clinched the match at No. 1 singles with a three-set victory over Peter Capkovic. Jackson lost the first set (6-2), but ralllied to win set two (6-4) and three (7-6). Jackson managed to edge Capkovic 9-7 in a spirited tie-breaker. After dropping the doubles point to the Tigers, USD evened the match at 1-all when Charl Wolmarans bested George Carpeni at the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-2. Princeton's Alex Vuckovic beat Chris Coetzee at No. 3 (6-4, 6-3) to go ahead 2-1, but USD jumped back on top with back-to-back wins from Nicola Bubnic at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3 over Alex Faust) and Tom Wolff (6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over Ryan Kim). Following Jackson's clincher at No. 1, Princeton's Charlie Brosens finished off Nils Schive at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. USD improves to 6-11 on the season while the Tigers fall to 5-6. USD is back in action this Wednesday, March 18th, when they host Utah in a 1:30 pm match.
