Four Toreros receive All-WCC Honors
Thursday, 04/23/2009

(San Diego, CA) – The USD men’s tennis team received good news today with four players being recognized by the West Coast Conference. Sophomore Dean Jackson (Soest, Germany), who played No. 1 singles for the Toreros and finished with a 17-4 spring record and national ranking of 52nd, was named to the All-WCC Singles First Team. Jackson, last year’s WCC Freshman of the Year, earned his second straight First Team honor. At the recently completed WCC Championships, Jackson went undefeated in singles and dealt 2009 WCC Player of the Year, Omar Altmann, a 6-2, 7-5 defeat at center court.

Senior Chris Coetzee (Durban, South Africa) and redshirt junior Charl Wolmarans (Capetown, South Africa) were both named to the All-WCC Second Team Singles. In doubles, Jackson was joined by sophomore Nils Schive (Oslo, Norway) on the All-WCC Doubles First Team. The Torero tandem combined for a 7-4 mark this spring. Being selected to the All-WCC Doubles Second Team was the duo of Wolmarans & Coetzee.
