Jackson begins NCAA Tennis play on Wednesday

(College Station, TX) - USD sophomore Dean Jackson (Soest, Germany), currently ranked 52nd in the latest Campbell's ITA Tennis Rankings, will face junior Justin Kronauge (Dayton, OH) of 3rd-ranked Ohio State in first round singles action at the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. Kronauge, who advanced to last year's NCAA quarterfinals and was named an ITA All-American, owns an overall singles record of 40-7 (29-4 dual) and is ranked 25th in the nation. Jackson, a two-time All-WCC first team selection, is 17-4 this spring and 19-7 overall. This is Jackson's second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. His first round match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. (PDT) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.

The winner of this match will advance to Thursday's second round where they will face the winner of the (7 seed) Michael Venus (LSU) vs. Austen Childs (Louisville) match. Venus, ranked 7th in the Campbell's ITA rankings, is a senior from Orlando, Florida who owns a singles record of 25-8 (15-6 @ #1 singles). Childs is a sophomore from Hillington, England and is ranked 28th in the nation.
