(San Francisco) - The No. 60 USF men's tennis team continued its success Thursday, taking down visiting Xavier 5-2 at the California Tennis Club. Thai Tu paced the Dons, earning his seventh straight singles win.
With the victory, USF improved to 7-5 on the season.
"It was another hard fought match in tough conditions," said head coach Peter Bartlett. "We are a bit banged up and have played a lot of matches lately but regardless we are getting nice contributions from multiple players on the team and because of it the team is getting more confidence in close matches."
Xavier jumped out to an early lead, taking the doubles point. Mark DeCastro and William Schumacher helped San Franicsco to avoid the doubles sweep, with an 8-6 victory over Philip Diaz and JT Torbeck.
USF captured the victory thanks to wins at everything but the No. 2 position. Tu continued his current winning streak with a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top spot over Chris Herrlinger. At No. 3, Richar Bucalem earned his first victory in the Green and Gold with a three-set 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over Patrick Bandy.
