FLUSHING, N.Y. – Texas junior Chris Camillone and sophomore David Holiner were victorious in their opening-round match but could not stave off elimination from the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Camillone and Holiner opened the day with an 8-6 win over Tennessee’s Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese in the round of 32, but Valdosta State’s Christian Hansen and Luis Loeffler handed the Texas tandem an 8-4 defeat in the round of 16.
The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships is one of three national championship events on the college tennis calendar along with the ITA All-American Championships and the NCAA Championships.
Camillone and Holiner will begin play in the consolation doubles draw on Friday.
